About the event

The Black Wellness experience has returned! This series is intended as a nurturing experience EXCLUSIVELY for people of the African Diaspora. There are few wellness spaces in Seattle where WE are in the majority. We deserve sacred space to feel seen, held and safe enough to show up exactly as we are, so that we may soften, rest, release and heal. It is even more powerful when we are able to do this in community.

This edition of Black Wellness will bring in elements of Kwanzaa. Black Wellness will take place on Saturday, December 30th, Day 5 of Kwanzaa, so we will celebrate the principle "Nia" or purpose. We will tend to our wellness by experiencing a restorative yoga class, followed by a nourishing sound bath.

What is Restorative Yoga?

Restorative yoga is a restful practice that is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. By definition, restorative yoga is a restful practice that holds yoga poses (asanas) for a longer duration using props like yoga blocks, blankets, and bolsters. It is a practice of deep relaxation that emphasizes the meditative aspect of yoga—the union of body and mind. Through the use of props for support, many of the postures are held almost effortlessly. (excerpts from Verywell Fit)

What is a Sound Bath?

In general, a sound bath is a meditative experience where those in attendance are “bathed” in the healing vibration of sound waves. These waves are produced by various sources, including metal and crystal singing bowls, percussion, chimes, rattles, other instruments and even the human voice itself. For this experience, I will mostly be using metal and crystal singing bowls. (excerpts from Verywell Mind).

To create a safer space for healing, please note that this event is intended exclusively for Black folks (people of the African diaspora). All others are asked to refrain from registering.
